HD Radio technology is being considered for approval by Cofetel, the country’s regulatory office. At the CIRT convention held in Cancun in October 2006, Cofetel announced a decision regarding digital radio will be forthcoming.A brief HD Radio trial took place in 2003, and further testing is expected later this year. It has been reported numerous HD Radio transmission licenses have been requested from the Government for permission to begin broadcasting as soon as possible. It is expected HD Radio technology will be approved in the near future for stations located near the US-Mexico border.
