Wistron NeWeb Corporation 2nd Generation HD Radioâ„¢ Modules Offer Both Samsung and SiPort IC Solutions to Deliver on Customer Application Initiatives

Hong Kong Electronics Fair, China - October 8, 2008 – Wistron NeWeb Corporation (WNC), a leading Taiwanese Consumer Electronics company, is now offering two next generation HD Radio modules which provide customers an increase in HD Radio features in a smaller compact size with less power consumption at a lower price than previous first generation modules. WNC has kept close development relationships with both of iBiquity Digital Corporation’s next generation chipset IC partners, Samsung and SiPort. It has also developed the HMA-SM module, which utilizes the Samsung chipset solution and the HMA-SP module which utilizes the Siport SP1010 chip solution. Samples are now available for the HMA-SM and HMA-SP. Mass production shipments will commence during the fourth quarter of 2008.

WNC’s HMA-SM and HMA-SP modules are based on iBiquity’s 2023/2129 reference designs and have pin definitions available in both a vertical and horizontal orientation. Both modules operate in slave mode and have flexible RF input configurations which can easily be implemented into different HD Radio applications from the home, to automotive, to portable. WNC’s next generation modules are RoHS and FCC compliant.

The WNC HD Radio modules provide crystal clear digital AM and FM audio with multicasting capability in addition to supporting analog AM and FM audio. The analog and digital signals seamlessly transition through automatic blending, providing listeners with an uninterrupted audio experience. Additional module features include iTunes® Tagging for HD Radio technology, Electronic Program Guide (EPG), Conditional Access and Surround Sound.

“Our customers view us as being ahead of the curve when it comes to the latest HD Radio technology,” said Fayu Chen, Vice President of Automotive and Digital Media Business Unit within Wistron NeWeb Corporation. “Mostly they are confident in our ability to help deliver products that are first-of-its-kind in the market place.”

Having over two years of HD Radio product development and manufacturing experience, WNC has designed first generation products and modules utilizing the Texas Instruments DRi352 chipset and can be found in products sold at Best Buy and other big box retailers. Several well known Japanese aftermarket car radio companies use WNC’s black box solution to add HD Radio technology to their “HD Radio Ready” car radio products.

“WNC’s commitment to quality has made it highly successful with a wide range of important brands bringing HD Radio products to consumers,” said Jeff Jury, COO of iBiquity Digital Corporation, the developer of HD Radio technology. “WNC has been an early leader in creating mobile and portable products, and designing next generation modules based on HD Radio technology.”
