Atmel’s AVR Microcontrollers Selected by iBiquity Digital Corporation for HD Radio™ Reference Design Platforms

San Jose, CA, October 16, 2009 – Atmel® Corporation (NASDAQ: ATML) a leader in microcontroller based solutions today announced that its AVR XMEGA and AVR 32 product families have been selected for iBiquity Digital’s HD Radio reference design platforms. iBiquity reference designs are used by many of today’s leading consumer audio manufacturers as a part of the introduction of new products, services and equipment that continues to enable a seamless transition to digital HD Radio Technology. Both the AVR XMEGA and AVR32 processor families are used in a number of HD Radio designs for user interface and control functions, while the AVR32 provides increased processing power for a number of varied HD Radio designs including MP3 decoding, USB connectivity, and iPOD® docking applications which are now shipping throughout the world.

The AVR XMEGA is an 8/16-bit, high performance microcontroller family with very low active and standby current consumption. It has 12-bit A/Ds and D/As, many peripheral interfaces (USARTS, SPI, TWI), and an internal DMA making it an outstanding choice for many consumer applications. The AVR32 is available with both USB OTG (full speed and high speed) and Ethernet interfaces. Additionally, Atmel offers a free touch technology software library that runs on the AVR XMEGA and AVR32 product family that allows system designers to implement capacitive touch buttons to their existing application without any additional cost.
