HD Radio enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast their programs digitally - a tremendous technological leap from the familiar analog broadcasts of the past. Digital HD Radio broadcasts provide listeners radically improved sound quality, more FM channels through HD Radio multicast and new data and information on their radio’s LCD screens.  All free with a new HD Radio receiver.  Over 2,800 radio stations in the U.S. are in the process of converting to the HD Radio system with more than 500 HD Radio broadcasters currently on the air.

The Digital Radio Revolution

Currently six out of 10 people in the U.S. are capable of receiving an HD Radio broadcast. With the ongoing conversion of additional stations, that number is projected to increase to more than 9 out of 10 listeners, or nearly 95 percent of the U.S. radio listening population, by 2007.

HD Radio Technology

The HD Radio system is an innovative digital radio technology that allows broadcasters to transmit digital signals over their existing AM/FM bands seamlessly and without service disruption.  To receive HD Radio broadcasts, consumers must have an HD Radio-capable receiver. However, HD Radio technology allows consumers with today’s radios to continue receiving the current analog signal, which is broadcast simultaneously with the digital signal.
