iBiquity Digital Releases Portable HD Radioâ„¢ Reference Design 2.0

Hong Kong Electronics Fair – April 15, 2009 – iBiquity Digital Corporation, the developer of digital HD Radio™ technology for AM and FM audio and data broadcasting, announced today that it is offering its licensed HD Radio developers a major update to its reference design for low-cost, low-power, battery-powered portable HD Radio products. The developers’ package for RX3_CB_2365 revision 2.0 includes schematics, bill-of-material, layout and software.

“This reference design represents a major milestone for the development of portable HD Radio products,” said Jeff Jury, COO, iBiquity Digital. “It will enable our partners to save design time and costs and allow for quicker time-to-market for mass produced low-power devices. Given the importance of reducing product introduction time in the portables market, we believe this reference will be of great value to many product developers.”

The reference platform is based on iBiquity’s discrete core module using the Samsung SEMHDR C200A and SEMHDR100A chipset. The discrete core module is a surface-mount device (SMD) package, which consists of a dual chip solution (RF-IF peripheral and baseband), dedicated memory SDRAM (64-128 Mbit) and flash memory (8-16 Mbit). The module has a total power consumption of 170 mW and allows for 15 hours of continuous operation of the portable solution.

The portable HD Radio unit uses an Atmel AVR32 as its host microprocessor and can support MP3, USB and an SD card interface. The new revision features a Lithium-Ion battery with USB charging and a 128x128 color graphic LCD. iBiquity also has a reference design using two AA batteries and a monochrome graphic LCD.
