iBiquity Introduces 2010 Domestic US Station Pricing Program

Columbia, Maryland – February 8, 2010 – iBiquity Digital Corporation, the developer of digital HD Radio Technology for AM and FM audio and data broadcasting, today announced its 2010 pricing program for US station licensing. The new plan includes reduced license fees and expanded payment options which will simplify radio broadcasters’ migration to digital. These fees only pertain to US licensed stations. Non-US stations are licensed through their broadcast equipment providers and those costs are included in the purchase price of equipment.

“HD Radio Technology has enjoyed tremendous broadcaster support and seen breakthrough progress in receiver sales, automotive adoption and product expansion over the past year,” said Bob Struble, President and CEO of iBiquity Digital Corporation. “Based on this success and heightened broadcaster enthusiasm, we have created flexible, cost-effective licensing options to make upgrading easier. Radio is now the last entertainment medium to convert from analog to digital, and we want to do all we can to help broadcasters upgrade and deliver the highest quality listening experience to their listeners and generate incremental revenue from new digital offerings.”

The new pricing model offers U.S. broadcasters three different options. Stations pay a one-time license fee to broadcast digitally on their main channel:

  1. Enclose payment in full with signed contract: $10,500
  2. Invoice next business month standard net 30 terms: $11,000
  3. 12 automatic electronic payments: $12,500 ($1,042/month)

“Thousands of radio stations large and small have upgraded to HD Radio Technology,” according to Rick Greenhut, iBiquity’s Director of U.S. Broadcast Sales. “In fact, approximately one new HD Radio station goes on the air every three days. Currently, there are over 2,000 stations broadcasting in digital. Because of that growing momentum, we want to encourage stations who have not yet upgraded to start reaping the benefits of digital broadcasting.”

At present, 85 percent of Americans are within reach of an HD Radio station and more than half of all radio listening is taking place on stations that have upgraded. Additionally, there are over 1,100 multicast channels on air, enabling FM radio stations to broadcast multiple unique programming streams to their listeners.

This is the perfect time for stations to enhance their listenership via HD Radio Technology. Currently, a total of 15 automakers have publicly announced their plans to integrate HD Radio Technology into their vehicles. In 2010, 80 vehicle lines will incorporate HD Radio receivers – 36 as standard equipment. There are now over 100 different HD Radio receivers available from over 14,000 brick-and-mortar and online retailers. And just this month, the Federal Communications Commission announced that HD Radio broadcasters can raise their digital power from one percent of analog power to a possible maximum of 10 percent.
